Abstract

This article analyzes China’s gradual infuence on the trans Pacifc regional economic integration process led by the Asia-Pacifc Economic Cooperation (APEC) mechanism. To this end, it examines the vision, goals, and objectives formulated by APEC in 1994 with a view to 2020. China’s infuence on the trans-Pacifc regional economic integration process is expressed in its positions and actions in response to recurrent economic crises in the world and in the trans Pacifc region over recent decades, as well as in its stance toward the neo-protectionist measures adopted by the United States in recent years. Using the comparative method, the article shows that, after joining APEC, China infuenced the mechanism’s economic integration process, particularly through the entry into force of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), efective since 2022. It concludes that, through the RCEP, China contributes to the trade liberalization goals pursued by APEC and also advances its global-regional integration agenda.
