Abstract

This study analyzes the transformation of trade relations among China, Mexico, and the United States from
1994 to 2023. Qualitative analysis identifies four historical stages; linear regression evaluates the determining
factors. Results show that rising transportation costs reduced U.S. imports from China (−0.017%), while
foreign direct investment showed a marginal positive effect (0.00012%). Wage variations proved statistically
insignificant. The hypothesis is partially confirmed: logistical cost increases explain China’s loss of comparative
advantage and Mexico’s competitive recovery in the U.S. market.
