In this research, the efficiency evaluation of 41 Higher Education Institutions (IES) in Mexico was carried out, of which 31 are State Public Universities (UPES) and 10 Intercultural Universities (UI) in 2014 and 2018, through the Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) methodology with variable returns to scale (VRS) and output orientation, a benchmarking analysis and a slack analysis were also carried out. To give robustness to the results, the bootstrap technique was implemented and for the selection of the variables the Pearson correlation coefficient was used with which, after applying it, the inputs that remained in the model were enrollment, teachers, academic programs, teachers in SNI and subsidy and the outputs were graduate students, agreements and accredited programs. According to the results obtained, it was observed that the DMUs present an inefficiency of 38% in 2014 and 33% in 2018, which reflects their acceptable performance.
